Mongoose Boy’s Legion L80 Bicycle, 20-Inch, Black
My son is 8yrs old and the bike is just a bit to big, however I planed for room to grow. The only minus so far is that the angle of the seat isn’t adjustable, and it’s set at a wicked angle. Other than that although I think my Champ will tear up the dirt, jumps, and street for some time to come. 54 BMX.
Mongoose Men\’s Status 2.4 Full Suspension Bicycle (26-Inch Wheels), White, 18-InchBought this bike to treat myself to an "upgrade" over my 99 Mongoose MGX made in 2000. The old steel frame bike was a beastly tank that never fell separately among the years of abuse. Caused by it being a steel frame, it could drain your energy peddling up the 1st hill of any ride. It only had 1" of front fork travel and looked pretty goofy with all the stickers. Now was the time to get an intermediate bike. Or so I thought. It was kind of a step down for the price. The position has a lighter frame, more fork travel and better aesthetics, however the quality of parts is terrible in comparison to my older bike. I have had problems with the shifter, brake lever, derailleur, rear wheel/hub, and brake cable inside 2 months of owning it. Pros:Frame – strong. Heavy for aluminum, however still lighter than steel. Rear suspension – intended to prevent bob and sagging. On the firmer side of the spectrum. No squeaks, rattles or noiseFront suspension – 4 inches of travel. But, soft and linear. You’ll bottom it out if you plan on jumping. Saddle – The most comfy stock seat on a department store I have ever sat on. It should last if you keep it out of the sun and rain. Cranks – No issuesTires – No issuesPedals – No issuesBrakes – Holding up greatCons:Brakes – firstly need some good tuning out of the boxBrake levers – One is hard, the other is loose with a bunch of play on the hinge. Derailleurs – nonsense. Have fallen off the bike do to violent misshifts. Wheels – While the look cool and have thicker hubs, the rear rim had a failure when riding. Manual – A generic manual produced by Pacific to cover all bikes from bmx, cruisers and mountain bikes. Indistinct.
Mongoose Brutus Bicycle, Black, 26-InchFor starters this bike isn’t for the faint of heart, as it’s a single speed bike and considerably heavy. ( About 48 lbs) The rims and tires are big. If you have ever seen one up close and live, the 1st thing to come out of your mouth is WOW!!. These bikes aren’t so easy to peddle unless you are accustomed to riding a fixed speed bike. And then, you’ll question your abilities. This is the reason I replaced the 18 tooth back cog with a 22 tooth cog, as it made it a little easier on the legs and hills. Removing the back cog wasn’t hard, as it’s only held in place by a thin metal ring that you may pop out with a small flat head screwdriver. The 22 tooth cog ( Sturmey Archer 1/8" 22t Coaster Brake Cog ) may be found on Amazon or Ebay for less than 10 dollars. I got mine on Ebay with free shipping for 6. 99, as it couldn’t be found on Amazon at the time. (Sorry Amazon) I’ll say that while Walmart is offering another variant of this Mongoose bike called the "Beast" for 199. 00, I was more attracted to Amazons Mongoose "Brutus" due to black with yellow rims which Walmart doesn’t offer. This Brutus cruiser as I have learned, will be turning heads, creating big smiles and having people asking questions. It’s a blast to ride as you roll along on those FAT wheels. Curbs are easily climbed and the best part is you do not must be an acrobat to do it. If you are riding on paved or dirt roads you’ll certainly have a good time and get lots of humorous looks from people. If you aren’t mechanically inclined I propose you take it to your nearest bike shop and have them do the work. It will not break your pocket and you will be a happy camper. So man’s and gals, join the Fat club and bring a smile to the world while peddling to your health.
Mongoose Data X2.0 Bicycle, Orange, 20-InchI required to replace my sons bike after I broke his last one while trying to ride it like I stole it, haha I’m too big now for these bmx style bikes. The color is a nice hunters blaze orange and looks cool. All around respectible build quality. This bike shouldn’t disappoint, unless your kid believes you have to pay hundreds more for bragging rights. This bike could handle me on it and that is remarkable. You’ll have to assemble it, so have some basic tools in your man/woman cave. Have your child help assemble it and they’ll learn how to work on things themselves. Lastly, be sure they have and use a helmet.
Mongoose M13SWIFS Women’s Switchback Expert Mountain Bike with 26" Wheels and Small Frame Size, WhiteCertainly not the same product as advertised, at least not the initial delivery. To start, the package was heavily damaged when it arrived. The bike I received doesn’t have the disc brakes, it is a different color, doesn’t have paddle shifters, seat is different, steel frame not aluminum, the tires aren’t as shown, forks are incorrect and the list goes on. Nothing is as advertised except the name. Maybe a mistaken pick of the order but a substitute is on the way, will update when the next one arrives. After two more exchanges vendor still can not seem to get it right, beware this isn’t the bike advertised nor can they get it right.
Mongoose Women\’s Status 2.2 Full Suspension Bicycle (26-Inch Wheels), Matte Purple, 16-Inch1st things 1st. As many portrayed the bike isn’t installed properly by the maker. You do have to put the bike together which isn’t hard but most of us are not bike experts. If you don’t know how to put it together I greatly recommend to take it to a bike shop. There they will put it together and fix anything that the maker placed wrong. I had problems with clicking on my bike every time I rode it, thankfully it was just that the pedals were loose. The people at the bike shop also moved the handlebars so the gears were facing up instead of down and they ticked with other minor errs. NOW, to the good part. The bike’s colors are awesome. It is a nice shade of purple/magenta. I have had this bike for about 3 or 4 months now and it rides great. The gears shift without a problem, the suspension works great when I am riding through bumps in the park or just jumping on a curb. The seat is comfy though it’s small (and I’m used to riding bikes. ) So for some people it may be better to get a somewhat bigger seat. The down side with me with this bike is that there’s no place to put your water. I had to purchase an adapter to be able to bring some water with me on trips. (although this is not an issue if you have those water packs or down use the bike for long distances. )I’m ranking this bike at 4 stars because although I paid 60 extra to take it to the bike shop, the bike itself as once properly installed works totally great. It is generally nice to ride on. The guys at the bike shop said this was a good quality bike and that it rode really nicely when they tried it out to be sure everything was in order. (And this is where their bikes cost a minimun of 500-600!)So, am I happy about the bike? totally! I’m not too happy about the extra cash I had to dish out to have it properly installed but the product itself was great.
Mongoose Boys Data X 2.2 Freestyle Bicycle with 20" Wheels, GreyEasy to assemble. Nice bike, looks great. Box was heavily damaged in shipping but all the parts where still there with no damage to the bike.
